Release Notes v10.9

On Wednesday 31 October we will be releasing the following enhancements:

  • Fix to ‘Base Location’
  • Improvements to the Messaging Widget on the homepage
  • Additions to the ‘product walkthrough’ accessible via the Help link
  • Improvements to Quick Profile Search and Quick Filter Search

Fix to ‘Base Location’

We had an issue with the Base Location not showing correctly for some aircraft. This has now been corrected.

Improvements to the Messaging Widget on the homepage

The Messaging Widget, available on the Flight Fleets Analyzer homepage, is our main method of keeping you up to date with product announcements. Previously, all users saw the same content; now, the content can be tailored based on the Industry Sector you chose as part of the registration process. This means we can do a better job of highlighting the information that is most relevant to you: for example, highlighting finance-related FlightGlobal Saved Searches to finance users, etc.

Additions to the ‘product walkthrough’ accessible via the Help link

Having recently made some changes to the homepage and search-page layouts, we’ve now updated the ‘product walkthrough’ which is available via the Help link and made sure that all of the page elements in the new page layouts are included as part of the walkthrough.

Improved Quick Profile Search and Quick Filter Search

The Quick Profile Search (QPS)

The QPS is available from the Flight Fleets Analyzer homepage (see Figure 1), and is the fastest way to find and launch an individual company or aircraft profile.

The Quick Filter Search (QFS)

The QFS is available from each of the Flight Fleets Analyzer search pages (see Figure 2), and is the fastest way to find and add a filter. The QFS is important as it includes over one million individual filter values, and is the quickest and easiest way to find and add filters when performing a search.

What’s changing?

Both the QFS and QPS use a search technology called IDOL, a proprietary technology which is not as flexible or as well supported as some other search solutions. We’ve decided to replace IDOL with Elasticsearch, which is open-source and has many advantages over IDOL. What does this mean for our users? QPS and QFS results will be:

  1. returned faster,
  2. more reliable, and
  3. better matched to your query.

Examples

Previously, results were returned even if the query was a match for the middle or end of a word. This was quite unusual, and something we wanted to change for a long time, but we’ve been waiting on the implementation of the new solution Elasticsearch before we made the change. You can see the effects of the change in the examples below:

Search query = frg

Search query = nyu
