Aircraft build location
We are pleased to announce that we have recently added Build Location to Fleets Analyzer. Build location represents the final assembly location and is assigned to individual aircraft.
In total, we have added build location to over 173,000 aircraft across all market groups. For the commercial fleet, we have build location for 88% of delivered aircraft.

Examples of using Build Location in Fleets Analyzer
For an aircraft type where multiple build locations exist e.g. A320, Fleets Analyzer can be used to see the distribution of aircraft built across the various locations.
Fleets Analyzer can also be used to see how such a distribution has developed over time.
To see a similar result for the 787, it’s simply a matter of removing the filter for A320 and replacing it with the filter for the 787. This gives the following:
Examples of using Build Location in Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel has some excellent mapping visualisations available, and the following example demonstrates mapping the various build locations for the World’s commercial in-service fleet.
- In Fleets Analyzer go to the ‘Aircraft tab’
- Filter by Market grouping = Commercial, and Status = in-service
- Add\Remove columns: Add all Build Location fields
- Export the results, and open in Excel.
- In Excel, go to the ‘Insert’ tab and select ‘3D Map’
- Once the map is open, it should have recognised some of the columns as containing geographic data e.g. City, Country and State (See figure 4).
- In the panel on the right-hand side, select ‘Add Field’ under ‘Height’, and select ‘Registration’. The bar charts shown on the map will now be a count of unique aircraft.
- In the panel on the right-hand side, select ‘Add Field’ under ‘Category’, and select ‘Manufacturer’. The bars shown on the map will now be segmented by aircraft manufacturer. Your map should then look like that shown below in figure 5.
- In the panel on the right-hand side, select ‘Add Filter’ under ‘Filters’, and select ‘Manufacturer’. You can now filter the results by specific manufacturers, e.g. Boeing (see figure 6):
